UK appoints new envoy to Oman

Muscat – The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) announced on Wednesday that Dr Liane Saunders OBE has been appointed King Charles III’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman.

Dr Liane will succeed William Murray, who has retired from the diplomatic service, and will take up her appointment this month.

Dr Liane, born in Cardiff, United Kingdom, held several positions prior to her appointment as ambassador to the sultanate, including staff counsellor and strategy director and strategic programmes coordinator at FCDO; acting deputy national security advisor and director, Foreign and Defence Policy, and Afghanistan/Pakistan Coordinator at Cabinet Office. 

She also served as additional director of Middle East and North Africa Directorate (MENAD); head of Counter Proliferation Department; head of Consular Crisis Group and Strategic Challenges Lead at Comprehensive Spending Review Team.
